Garner Saguil Has been teaching at Dingeman since 1999. He graduated from SDSU with a BA degree in Liberal Studies in addition to a multi-subject teaching credential. He also received his MA in education from the University of La Verne. His master's thesis was written on the importance of music in education, and music is highly emphasized in his classroom. Special credentials include GATE, CLAD, and a Math Specialist Certificate from SDSU.
He currently enjoys teaching 4th/5th grade Seminar and directing the Dingeman Honor Choir. Garner also works part time Guitars and Ukuleles in the Classroom as a faculty trainer, teaching other educators around SD County how to incorporate ukuleles into their curriculum.
In 2005, he received the award of CA Classroom Music Teacher of the Year from the California Music Educator's Association. He also received the "Bravissimo Award" from the San Diego County of Education, The Old Globe Theater, and The La Jolla Playhouse for incorporating theater in education. To his surprise, he received the regional Classroom Music Teacher of the Year award again for 2017. In 2018 Mr. Saguil was awarded the Mackenzie-Haney Outstanding Choir Director's
Award from SDUSD's VAPA Department, and in 2020 he was awarded the "Artful Learner Ovation Award" from the SD County Office of Education's VAPA Department.
Mr. Saguil enjoys cars, jogging, cooking, and traveling to exotic places. Did you know that his homemade spaghetti almost landed him a spot on Wheel of Fortune? Ask him about it!
